Hello Reader, What do you think about this? Creating is more powerful than consuming. "When you find things to create, then you actually feel satisfied... when we create, we feel alive." - Gabe Bult I watched and heard this video by Gabe Bult a week or so ago, and it's been rolling around in my head ever since then. Have you ever had that happen to you? You hear or watch something and it sticks to your mind? That's what happened with Gabe's video. I totally agree with him: Consuming things doesn't feel the same as creating them. Creating is far more fulfilling than consuming. Do you agree? I love creating! And I do feel far more alive...far more like I'm being who I was created to be when I am creating something. My podcast. The novel I've been working on, and am getting so...very...very...close to finishing! Meals for my family - I love trying to follow recipes from my favourite chefs. My personal favourite is Jamie Oliver, for example! One of our classic favourites is Rustic Tortilla Soup. But I love the creating part. The pulling together of ingredients to create something I have never created before. Now this is important: Not all my attempts have worked! A few weeks ago, I followed a recipe and it turned out terribly wrong. We totally DID NOT like how it ended up tasting. It flopped! It didn't look like the picture in the book. And I bet it didn't taste like it looked in the book, either! Then there are my feeble attempts at Youtube so I can practice breaking out of my comfort zone. (I posted my podcast episode here this week. So far I have a whopping 1 view. ) I think that might be in the category of trying something new, and having it flop? I also know it's in the category of patiently persisting at something. Growth will happen over time and making mistakes. Lots of them. But I still love creating. And this has A LOT to do with learning English. You don't need more classes or course books. That's consumption. And yes, some consumption is important for you to build your English skills. But when working through course books or going to English class becomes your doom scrolling on TikTok - meaning you spend all your time here instead of being or doing things you REALLY need to be doing, then we have a problem. English class is often like consuming information about English. Like I said, some of that is good. But where you really need to spend time is outside of class, actually using what you have and are learning. Creating. Creating through new conversations with the people around you, where you take your limited and growing knowledge of English and put it to work for you. Like my Jamie Oliver recipes, some of those attempts will totally flop on you. Nothing will come out right. But in many other cases, you'll be amazed at how good it turns out. But those amazing experiences will never happen unless you and I lean away from consuming, and become creators. What will you create with your English skills this week? (And if you know who this guy is, you get bonus points! 👇) *** Did you see this? You can test your English level for free: Want to see what your current CLB level in English is? This might help. Hi Reader, Before we get to AI, I want to tell you that it's been a long time since I have read a book for fun. My wife gave me "Out Of The Silent Planet" by C.S. Lewis for Christmas this year, and I've finally settled in to reading it. I love C.S. Lewis' writing, but I have to admit, I found the book hard to get into at first. Maybe it was the noise of my persistent sore back, or maybe it's just been so long since I read for long periods of time that I'm a little out of practice - not sure....
