Can you spot AI?

Hi Reader,

Before we get to AI, I want to tell you that it's been a long time since I have read a book for fun.

My wife gave me "Out Of The Silent Planet" by C.S. Lewis for Christmas this year, and I've finally settled in to reading it.

I love C.S. Lewis' writing, but I have to admit, I found the book hard to get into at first. Maybe it was the noise of my persistent sore back, or maybe it's just been so long since I read for long periods of time that I'm a little out of practice - not sure. But I'm happy to say, that I'm half-way through, and am loving it.

I feel like it's been a while since I gave my imagination a workout like what Lewis has been giving it!

Speaking of workouts, how about one for you?

πŸ“– Reading workout: How AI English and human English differ- and how to decide when to use artificial language is an interesting and challenging read!

Can you spot AI generated text a mile away, but you're not always exactly sure HOW you knew it wasn't written by a human? I think the article has some great explanations to help. (And I love the reframe: what makes human writing sound human?)

I think it also sheds some light on why you need to be careful - not avoid it - with how you use AI to help you practice for the CELPIP. Of course the article never mentions the exam, but as Laura Aull, the author of the article points out: "AI tends to use formal information dense language that sounds academic, whereas humans use varied patterns" to convey ideas.

What's your take?

Hello Reader, This week I read a post on LinkedIn that got me thinking about AI, and this week's podcast is based on what I've been thinking about. We hear things like, "AI is coming for this or that position" which means it's going to replace someone's job. Maybe you've heard stuff like that too? And I sometimes find myself wondering the same about the work I do. Could I get replaced? Sesame Street No GIF by Muppet Wiki Here's the thing: AI IS having a deep impact in our world.
