Hello Reader, This week I visited a new physiotherapist. I've been battling chronic back pain for 5+ years, and over that time I've worked with 2 chiropractors, 2 physiotherapists and have been x-rayed so many times I think I might glow in the dark - and nothing has helped me or the pros I've been working with get rid of the pain. The pain is every day, and it sucks. Well, my newest physio visit didn't do much to help either. Booo! The therapist did give me some helpful information about my back that I didn't know before, but as far as helping me find a way to treat it....nothing. The only thing I got out of the visit was some new information, but my problem of pain is still there. So I decided to book an appointment with a specialist who deals with chronic pain and lower back issues. (That's a duh moment for me - I don't know why it took me that long to go in this way, but there you go. Lesson learned the hard way?) Why I'm telling you this? This week I read a post on Reddit from someone who had taken the CELPIP 7 times, and each time did not get the score they needed. Worse: their struggle was only with the reading section of the CELPIP. Specifically, reading task 3. Their problem? Trying to read everything and then answer the questions. They always ran out of time. First of all, on one side, trying and failing, and trying again so many times is admirable! It takes a lot of perseverance and determination to pursue your language learning goals - especially when you keep falling short of the goal you need. But what my Reddit friend needs is not new information. They need a way to kill the pain! And this week's podcast is the strategy that will help them - and you - get through CELPIP reading task 3, and never run out of time again. Check it out here. *** From an RCIC** I trust: This is what you should do if you are applying for a LMIA-exempt work permit. This post from Ana Canseco might make all the difference in your conversation with your employer. By the way, if you're new around here, back in July I featured Ana in a podcast that you might enjoy. **I only link to RCIC's I trust, and even better: I don't get a dime from them to do it. *** Thanks for reading! Do you struggle with the reading section of the CELPIP? Reply with and let me know, and I'll share some of my best ideas to help you. Have a great week, Aaron |

Hello Reader, I know you want your English skills to get stronger., and I know you want to speak calmly and confidently on the CELPIP exam. (Right?) If that matters to you, then I have an important word I want to offer you that will set you free! FREQUENCY. (and I talk about it in this week's podcast.) Hello Reader, Did you know that there are no 'secrets' to learning English faster? But if you focus on increasing the frequency of your practice, and think differently about what those practice sessions look like, you can go a LONG way towards making more progress than you can imagine! The challenge? Most people are stuck thinking 'English practice' only happens in classrooms and with a teacher or course book to work with. Nope. The best and most powerful practice is actually happening all...
Hello Reader, Your walk home from work, or around your neighbourhood can easily turn into a fun CELPIP speaking task practice session if you're alert to what's going on around you. How about this? The other day as I was walking I noticed this cool little yard ornament: What could you do with this shot to help you practice? I immediately thought of speaking task 8, where you need to describe a picture with an unusual item or situation happening in it. Give yourself 30 seconds to brainstorm...
