How to beat clock anxiety on the CELPIP

Hello Reader,

Are you preparing for the CELPIP exam and feeling the pressure of the ticking clock or the noise around you? This week a brand new podcast drops that will take a deep dive on this very topic. (If you're already subscribed to the show, you already have it in your podcast app! Hint, hint! )

Not subscribed to the show yet? No problem. 👉 You can get set up right here.

Here are two quick ideas that I go way deeper in on the podcast that will help you stay focused and confident:

Clock Anxiety: If that ticking clock on your speaking tasks drives you crazy and you can't stay focused on giving your answer, make sure you're giving yourself lots of practice actually speaking against the clock or a timer so you get used to how this feels. Seems obvious? A shocking number of people DON'T do this. Result: clock anxiety on exam day.

Noise Distractions: Don't forget: your exam centre won't be perfectly silent on your big day. Many people complain about noise distractions completely throwing them off when they're trying to give their exam responses. Don't let this happen to you - practice in noisy environments so you can get used to it.

Give these techniques a try and watch your confidence soar on exam day!

Listening Practice: I did an episode on the topic of test distractions back in May. 👉 How Do I Overcome Distractions on my CELPIP exam day?

Hello Reader, I'm so sorry for two emails today. I realized I had some mistakes, and wanted to fix them. (Working on your English? You'll make plenty of mistakes too! Do what I'm doing right now - correct and try again! 😁) --- I bet you've noticed it. I know I have. Darkness. Have you noticed it's getting darker sooner now? And darker in the morning when you get up to head to work? I've noticed it. And then...the cold. Have you noticed that happening yet? Dang. The cold is coming. The dark is...

Hello Reader, Writer and speaker John Maxwell once said, "You'll never find the right answers if you're asking the wrong questions." And I've got a great frequently asked 'wrong question' to share with you today: "How long should I practice for the CELPIP before I take it?" And another popular one: "How long is long enough to practice my English for?" The answer? It's not about how long you need or should be practicing. It's how frequently are you practicing? Frequency matters FAR MORE than...

Hello Reader, Well, this is embarrassing! My email sent with the wrong info in it, so I'm resending to fix it. (I'm so sorry for the duplicate message today - here is the right one.) Getting stuck at any score on the CELPIP can be a mighty tough situation to be in, because stuck usually means you've had multiple attempts at breaking free, but they didn't work. Worse? What if your reading, writing, and listening scores were all high, and it was all because of your speaking results that you...
