Feeling like you're about to break? Read this

Hello Reader,

I've been thinking (and praying!) about doing this episode for well over a year now - it dropped this week - Wednesday morning, and I can't wait to get it to you: 👉 Where is your strength coming from?

What is it?

I've been thinking about doing something like this for a year or more, but kept hesitating because of fear, because of not wanting to come across in the wrong way, or somehow push you away.

But what I couldn't stop thinking about? The deeply challenging experiences of many of my friends, and many of you that I have been getting to know, as you've been working to get your life established in Canada.(And my own experiences of immigrating to Mexico, and then moving back to Canada 16 years later.)

Without exaggerating, trying to start your life from zero in a new country can be incredibly rewarding, but also one of the most deeply challenging things you can ever do, right?

It can literally feel like an all out assault on who you are as a person.

And what I've often come to realize through my own seasons of great difficulty is that sometimes human help just isn't enough.

I don't have all the answers, and I never will claim to.

I also don't have my life all together, as you'll hear in this episode.

But I want to share with you where I have found hope and strength to go through these difficult times. Maybe it will help and encourage you if you find yourself in the middle of your own...

Inside This Episode...

  • Beyond the Paperwork: Why the move to Canada is more than just a CELPIP score—it can be a total "assault on your identity" that requires more than just physical preparation.
  • Starting from Zero: A candid look at the "painful disconnects" of leaving family and careers behind, and why it’s okay to admit you’re at your breaking point, and then what you can do about it.
  • The Limit of Self-Reliance: Why the "work harder" mentality of Western and Canadian culture often fails us when we hit life’s most difficult walls.
  • A Source of Strength: An introduction to "Spiritual Care" and how to draw on "boundless might" when your own energy has completely run out.

I hope to create new episodes regularly. I will publish them on Wednesdays, and they will be clearly labeled so if you're not into this sort of thing, you can easily skip it or not download it at all. (I get that...and I hope you'll continue to listen to my regular CELPIP Success podcast episodes. They won't be changing any time soon.)

Anyway, that's want I wanted to tell you about today. A new spiritual care podcast is out and ready for you. Please check it out, and tell me what you think. I would love to hear from you.

Have a great day!

Aaron

Hello Reader, I know you want your English skills to get stronger., and I know you want to speak calmly and confidently on the CELPIP exam. (Right?) If that matters to you, then I have an important word I want to offer you that will set you free! FREQUENCY. (and I talk about it in this week's podcast.) The best way I know for you to get stronger English skills and more confidence for the CELPIP is by you using your English more often each day. Higher frequency of practice is what you're...

Hello Reader, Did you know that there are no 'secrets' to learning English faster? But if you focus on increasing the frequency of your practice, and think differently about what those practice sessions look like, you can go a LONG way towards making more progress than you can imagine! The challenge? Most people are stuck thinking 'English practice' only happens in classrooms and with a teacher or course book to work with. Nope. The best and most powerful practice is actually happening all...

Hello Reader, Your walk home from work, or around your neighbourhood can easily turn into a fun CELPIP speaking task practice session if you're alert to what's going on around you. How about this? The other day as I was walking I noticed this cool little yard ornament: What could you do with this shot to help you practice? I immediately thought of speaking task 8, where you need to describe a picture with an unusual item or situation happening in it. Give yourself 30 seconds to brainstorm...
