epic fails

Hello Reader,

This week I was away for work, and needed to record the podcast episode using what I had on hand: my cellphone. (It was also a video for my YouTube channel.)

I didn't have a stand with me to hold my phone, so instead I tried to balance it on the box of a board game I had with me.

In case you were wondering, balancing your phone on a box doesn't work very well.

My phone fell multiple times during my recording.

Video went suddenly black.

Loud thumping as gravity did it's finest work, pulling my phone behind the desk where I was working.

It was messy.

But I decided to keep going for one simple reason: in order to get better, you have to put the reps in - even if they are messy.

I'm trying to get better at creating videos. (Way out of my comfort zone.)

But I'm also trying to get better at speaking without a script. (Way, WAY out of my comfort zone.)

So I couldn't allow myself to stop, even after the mistakes.

And I think there's a lesson in there for you too, when it comes to your CELPIP prep. I talk about it in today's podcast episode: Stop Memorizing Templates on the CELPIP — Do THIS to Break Past CLB 8

CELPIP Success: The newsletter Hey Reader, I've been thinking a lot about something that I'm not particularly good at: saying what I really think - my opinion about real world issues. Not all the time, of course. But more often than I care to admit, I find that I'm thinking something about a news story, for example, but I don't express it. Happen to you? Here's what I mean: I listened to several podcast episodes this week on CBC's Frontburner (a personal favourite podcast of mine) that left...

A person with dreadlocks typing on a laptop at a desk in a workspace

Hello Reader, I think the typical way we are taught and try to learn grammar SUCKS. It's incredibly boring. It's usually 100% about memorizing lists of rules and verbs. And worse: this approach rarely works. It doesn't stick! Do you agree? There's a better way to learn grammar, and you don't need to waste hours and hours trying to memorize stuff you'll only forget when you need it most, like on the CELPIP exam or in the middle of a conversation, and this week's podcast will tell you all about...

Two men running on a paved road lined with lush green hanging vines

Hello Reader, Happy Saturday to you. How did your week go? Mine felt busy. More busy than I like it to be, and the crazy part: I made it that way. I created the busy but adding things to what I'm already doing, thinking that they were important to do. Like what, you may ask? The daily YouTube posting challenge I thought I'd try. I made it through a week of creating and posting shorts, and have figured out that I don't want to continue with that rhythm. Even weirder? It was a mental topic of...
