Do CELPIP templates help?

Hello Reader,

I see it again and again and again over on Reddit: can you give me a writing or speaking template to help me score a 12?

Or this: A post features a screenshot of someone's "perfect" CELPIP scores, and in the post they promise to share all their templates that got them there - just leave a comment below to get it.

Maybe you've seen things like that online too?

Here's the thing: templates offer the promise of an easy memorized win. Just learn this template, plug it into your response, and bingo! You'll (magically!) get the same score as me.

๐ŸŽง In this week's podcast, I'll show you why you shouldn't use a template by actually breaking one down that I found online. โ€‹

CELPIP Success: The newsletter Hello Reader, I came across a post on Reddit - someone stuck at 9 in listening and writing, but they need a 10. This will be their 6th attempt. So how do you break out of that 9? Check your level. If you're 100% sure you're current level of English is at a C1 or advanced, then aiming for a 10 is not an unrealistic score to aim for. Remember: the CELPIP measures your current level of English. That means studying harder for the CELPIP won't bump your score up....

CELPIP Success: The newsletter Hello Reader, I've mentioned this before, and I'll do it again and again simply because I think we frequently get it wrong: Mistakes with your English = progress markers. Zero mistakes almost always = not enough risk taking. To make progress with your English and your CELPIP scores, you REALLY need to use your English more often than you are, and in ways you haven't gotten used to yet. Risks. Take more of them with your English skills to see them grow. (And your...

CELPIP Success: The newsletter Hello Reader, This week I was away for work, and needed to record the podcast episode using what I had on hand: my cellphone. (It was also a video for my YouTube channel.) I didn't have a stand with me to hold my phone, so instead I tried to balance it on the box of a board game I had with me. In case you were wondering, balancing your phone on a box doesn't work very well. My phone fell multiple times during my recording. Video went suddenly black. Loud...
