5 Helpful Ideas To Build Your Fluency In English:

  • Learn to welcome discomfort! Stepping out of your comfort zone is the key to improving your speaking skills. If you want to reach a higher speaking score on the CELPIP, start taking more conversational risks with English-speakers. That might mean starting the conversation yourself! It might help to come up with a few conversation starter questions before to get the ball rolling.
  • Change how you practice: Don't forget the power of practicing with your cell phone to record your responses, and then listen back to them. Think: what did I do well? What is one thing I can improve? Repeat.
  • Remember: there are no short-cuts to fluency! Focus on building and following daily habits for improving your English.
  • Being proactive in conversations is crucial. Don't wait for opportunities to come to you, create them by initiating discussions with others.
  • Focus on using new vocabulary words, not memorizing them. The more you use new words, the more your vocabulary will grow.
